In Dark Places
Here's another piece I just did...Sort of a concept/cover design for another project I want to do in the future. I have lots of ideas but no time to execute them!! Hopefully these labors of love will begin to take shape over the next few years and I'll be able to start posting pages of the actual story rather than just teasers. Hope you like!

ONE
So, today is my wife and my 1st anniversary, so I had to whip something special up. I was trying to think of something for a few weeks but nothing came to mind...Then this concept popped into my head and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Hope she likes it!

Futebol
Another style experiment I decided to try. I did the base drawing first, more or less realistic, then simplified the shapes using only 90 and 45 degree angles. I like giving myself limitations sometimes with my art...It forces me to make decisions I wouldn't normally. Hope you like!

Avedon Girl
Okay, so I know its been a long while since I've posted anything here, but I'm going to try to be a little more regular about it in the future. I've been really busy the last 10 months or so working as a storyboard artist for the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon. However, I really miss doing some of these simple studies and style experiments, so when the show wraps in about 2 months I'll probably be posting more on my blog, and over at my deviantart. Anyway, hope you're all doing well...This is another study of a photo by Richard Avedon, this time all digital done on my Cintiq 12wx using Photoshop. Enjoy!

Trying to Learn.
Hey all, so, I've been thinking recently about where I want to go as an artist in the next 4-5 years, and I think I'm going to try to transition into Concept Design. I've been thinking about what I really enjoy about art, and its always been the designing of worlds and characters. In comics and storyboarding, I get to act, which is another thing I love to do artistically, but usually when doing those two things you don't have too much time to concentrate on the design of the world, or the objects in it. I don't think I'll ever quit one artistic field and forever move into another, but I'm excited about learning some new skills and techniques, and right now, that seems like the direction I want to head. That said, its going to be a long process for me to get to where I need to be in order to get work in that industry, because there are already a ton of talented folks working in the field, and I have a lot of catching up to do. But God willing, I'm gonna make it eventually. This is a little painting I did practicing some techniques I learned from watching Feng Zhu's video tutorials. If you're interested in learning this stuff too, you should definitely google them! They're awesome and free. Anyway, hope you guys like!

More Airport Studies.
Hey all! These are some sketches I did on my way back from Brazil, in the São Paulo airport where I had a 10 hr layover. It wasn't fun, but I did get a lot of drawing done :) I was mainly drawing comic work while there, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to draw a captive audience while I stayed up all night drinking espresso and eating lots of Pão de Queijo. Anyway, hope you like this!

Red Shoes
Hey everyone! Just did this up in photoshop from a ink/inkwash drawing that I done. You know, doing these more experimental pieces really makes me long to do some illustrations or something where I get to spend more time and really flesh out the different aspects of it. These are generally done without any real plan(as I'm sure is apparent), but during the process I always have some kind of interesting revelation as to how to combine different mediums/textures/etc. I'm enjoying this. Hope you guys are too!

Style Experiment.
Study of a photo by Irving Penn(not sure who the subject is). I wanted to try some different things stylistically with this one...I'm a big fan of Sergio Toppi's work, and I've always wanted to try some of the distortion techniques he uses in his work. I simplified the shapes in this but still tried to keep an element of realism. The color scheme is analogous with a complimentary. Hope you like!
