Day Five!

Hey folks, here's my post for today...Little bit of sketchy fun with a figure study and an ancient sculpture of a giant head. Hope you like!

  1. Looks great, Micah! I especially love the color and the strong light source. Was this done on parchment?

  2. Thanks! Nope, all the parchments stuff is done in Photoshop...

  3. Got to say she's got pretty nice shape to her. With that neat stone head, it looks like a moment caught on a lost island somewhere... Another one well done, sir! Using the white for her bikini is a nice contrast indeed.

  4. Thanks Alex! Yeah, a lot of the things that I'm drawing I'm partially doing as reference study for an upcoming project...It should be a lot of fun if and when it happens.

  5. Reminds me of Shelley's "shattered visage" in Ozymandias (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poem.html?id=175903)

  6. Okay, now I'm pretty sure that's you, right Dad? "Firefeet" and a comment about Ozymandias...Its funny, I was actually thinking about that poem when I was looking at the reference photo I used for the head sculpture. Its from a place called Mount Nemrut(Nimrod) in Turkey. Maybe this is actually a depiction of the oldest tyrant in history, and by definition the inspiration for the fictional Ozymandias :)

  7. Haha, must have been Dad. I thought of the exact same thing though :) Nice sketch! The golden highlights make the figure really seem at home in that desert setting.
